Delhi Metro Golden Line: All You Need To Know Before You Go
The Delhi Metro Golden Line, an upcoming expansion in Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro, marks a significant addition to the city’s public transportation network. This development is poised to elevate connectivity within Delhi, substantially reducing travel time for both residents and visitors.
Initiated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as a crucial component of the Phase 4 expansion project, this 24-kilometer rapid transit line is strategically designed to establish a direct connection between southern Delhi and the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The introduction of the Golden Line is expected to bring about a transformative impact on the efficiency and accessibility of the city’s transportation system.
In a recent announcement on Monday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) revealed the adoption of a new color coding system, opting for a distinctive golden code for the upcoming Delhi Metro Golden Line. Originally designated as silver, this modification aims to prevent confusion and enhance visibility for riders, as the silver color was merging with the stainless steel exterior of the trains. This strategic decision reflects the DMRC’s commitment to ensuring clarity and ease of identification for passengers using the Golden Line.
Prominent Attributes –
The Tughlakabad Metro Station stands as a vital interchange hub facilitating seamless connectivity between the Golden Line and the Violet Line. This strategically planned station is meticulously designed as a four-level underground structure, ensuring efficient transit for commuters. Notably, it features a 23-meter-deep parking facility, catering to the convenience of travelers. Additionally, a well-designed short subway further enhances the overall commuter experience, fostering smooth inter-line connectivity and contributing to the accessibility and functionality of the station.
Airway Connectivity –
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has formally proposed the extension of the Delhi Metro Golden Line to reach Terminal 1 (T1) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Additionally, the proposal includes the introduction of check-in facilities at Noida’s Botanical Garden metro station. This strategic initiative is driven by the objective of efficiently managing the expected surge in passenger capacity at T1 while simultaneously enhancing the overall connectivity to and from the airport. The extension and added facilities are envisioned to contribute significantly to the seamless and convenient transit experience for air travelers.
Route
The extensive Delhi Metro Golden Line corridor covers a distance of 23.62 km and encompasses 15 stations, seamlessly connecting Aerocity to Tughlakabad. This metro corridor is strategically designed to establish a crucial link between the Kashmere Gate-Raja Nahar Singh Violet Line and the Airport Express Line, playing a pivotal role in expanding connectivity and enhancing accessibility to diverse locales in the southern region of Delhi.
The strategically positioned stations along this line include Mahipalpur, Vasant Kunj, Chhatarpur, Khanpur, and Sangam Vihar, among others. Each station is meticulously planned to cater to the needs of the surrounding areas, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Golden Line in meeting the transportation demands of the southern region in Delhi.
Project Schedule And Financial Allocation
The initiation of Phase 4 construction commenced in March 2023, with an initial projected completion date of December 2024. However, recent updates indicate a potential extension of the completion timeline to March 2026.
For the fiscal year 2023–2024, the Delhi Development Authority has allocated Rs 350 crore for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The comprehensive cost of the Phase 4 expansion, which encompasses the development of the Golden Line, is estimated to be approximately Rs 55,000 crore. These financial allocations underline the substantial investment and commitment to the expansion of Delhi’s metro network, including the pivotal Golden Line project.
Considerable financial support from the state government and international funding agencies, including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is anticipated to play a substantial role in augmenting the budget for the project.
According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the overarching goal of the expansive Phase 4 expansion, particularly through the introduction of the Golden Metro Route, is to establish connections to emerging residential areas. The primary objective is to augment the existing public transportation network by creating a more interlinked and efficient transit system. This strategic initiative is envisioned to provide a substantial enhancement to Delhi’s overall connectivity.
The Golden Metro Route, with its direct link to the airport, is positioned as a crucial addition to Delhi’s urban transportation infrastructure. Beyond its role in addressing the burgeoning transportation needs of the city, it is anticipated to offer a significant boost to the overall efficiency, accessibility, and connectivity of Delhi’s public transportation system.
