An Indian Air Force helicopter with Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat dropped in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Four people are confirmed dead during the accident. There is no instant information on General Rawat’s condition.

So far three people are rescued, while a hunt continues for others. As per the sources, fourteen people were on board the plane. The three rescued people sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital at Willington cantonment in the Nilgiris district. Rescue work is still going on.

Visuals from the Indian Air Force crash site demonstrated huge sparks and locals assisting with the instant rescue operations. Many teams are engaged in search and rescue work at the spot. Local military officers have reached the spot and they have been told that the locals have got two bodies with 80% burns to a local hospital, while more bodies were looked down upon, ANI news agency reported.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has directed the local administration to give all the best possible medical facilities to the people who are harmed in the incident. The affected would be treated at the government hospital in Coonoor and doctors are being sent from Coimbatore for specialist treatment.

As per the agency’s report quoting sources, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is supervising the situation after the crash of the IAF helicopter carrying Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat and others. “A meeting of senior Defense Minster official is going on. Singh has informed the Prime Minister about the accident,” as per the sources. Rajnath Singh is likely to brief the Parliament on the helicopter crash in Coonoor on Thursday.
