Farmers Bill Repealed
The Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on Monday announced the “Farm laws repeal bill 2021” to abolish the three controversial agriculture laws established in 2020, against which different farm organizations are carrying extensive protests for the last 1 year.
The bill, which was delayed by Union Agriculture Minister Narender Singh Tomar, looking to cancel the three farm laws – (Farmer’s produce trade and commerce), (Essential Commodities), (Farmers’ empowerment and protection) agreement on price assurance and farm services ACT, 2020.
The bill was established by a voice vote. Although opposition MPs from Congress, DMK, and TMC demanded negotiations, the bill was enacted without any negotiation. The statements of reasons and objects of the farm laws cancel bills written: “even though just a set of farmers are opposing these laws, the government has tried a lot to make farmers aware of the significance of the agriculture laws and describe the qualities through many meeting and other conferences.”
Many producer organizations have strongly opposed these laws made by Parliament in September 2020. Many farmers set in the country have been taking extensive protests and disturbances for more than a year since the passage of these laws, necessitating that they are abolished.
In a specific address to the country on 19 November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stated that the Center would take moves to abolish the three agriculture laws in the forthcoming winter session of the Parliament. “We have determined to abolish three agriculture laws. We would end the constitutional procedure to abolish the law in the forthcoming Parliament session.” Stated the Prime Minister.
The Supreme Court
In January 2021, has stayed the execution of these laws till more orders, to promote a procedure of negotiation among the protesting groups and Center. The Supreme Court had also composed a committee to continue the discussions. Although, the farmer’s leader struck the committee.
The major complaint grown by the farmers is that the laws would occur in the solution of the state-run Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees, and disturb the minimum support price tool. The farmers who protest worry that the laws would cover the process for corporate exploitation. A bunch of appeals challenging the legality of the farm laws has been recorded in the Supreme Court and the ability of Parliament to enforce has also been questioned.
