CSK Players And Staff Test Positive For Covid-19

In Dubai, many members of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) contingent, comprising an Indian medium-pacer, have tested positive for Covid-19. With less than four weeks left for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 to kick off, three-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) undergo a shock. On Friday, the Yellow Army decided to elongate its quarantine period in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by another week after the CSK players and staff test positive for Covid-19.

On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) enlightened through an official release that a total of 13 people have tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in UAE for the IPL 2020. The BCCI’s official release comes only a day after numerous Chennai Super Kings members tested positive for Covid-19. This news came just hours after the franchise informed on Twitter that senior Chennai Super Kings (CSK). It’s the first such case among the eight teams which are in United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the 2020 Indian Premier League. On Thursday night, where the problem of Coronavirus positive cases in CSK was announced. The Indian player who has tested positive has lenient symptoms, said an official.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise is staying at the Taj Dubai hotel. On 21 August, they reached in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and on Friday, their one-week quarantine should have ended. CSK was supposed to have begun training on Saturday; however, now there is no clarity on when the training will start. On Friday, the entire CSK team comprising staff and officials had to suffer their fourth Covid-19 test.

In a span of six days, the members were to be tested thrice upon landing in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Till all tests come negative, the players are authorized to stay within their individual rooms and not visit any other room. After the first week, the players are permitted to enter a ‘team bio-bubble.’ India player and other members who have tested positive said as per the guidelines, even if they are asymptomatic or carrying lenient symptoms, will now have to be isolated in the designated area outside the bio-secure ambiance for two weeks.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) directed a preliminary camp in Chennai from August 15-20, comprising Indian members of the team such as M.S Dhoni, Karn Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Ambati Rayudu, Murali Vijay, and many more, before leaving for Dubai. Along with this, there were net bowlers from the Tamil Nadu first-class and age-group teams, some of whom have visited with the primary team to Dubai. Nevertheless, all precautions were taken the infected Indian player has come in contact with other players of Chennai Super Kings back home in the preliminary camp.

An official said the Indian player tested negative in India; otherwise, he will not have boarded the flight to Dubai. The coronavirus has a precaution period in the range of 2-14 days, and in an RT-PCR test, it can take 2-5 days for an infected person to show up positive. So the point is where the Chennai Super Kings members contracted the virus may be hard to identify.

Although, as per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for this year’s IPL, each and every travelling member of the team was required to provide their travel history for the last three months.

When football began in Europe, a few players have tested positive. So with eight IPL teams and over 1000 members, this was a risk. This could happen to any team. In spite of taking all types of precautions, it is just unlucky that it has happened to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
