Delhi excise policy case: Arvind Kejriwal skips ED summons, will attend MP roadshow instead

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will leap his planned arrival before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) delivers a notice in the Delhi excise policy case, today. Mr. Kejriwal wrote to the ED, demanding that they not accept their summons, calling it “ unlawful and politically inspired’.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief, Arvind Kejriwal is leaving for Madhya Pradesh to campaign as the state drills for council elections organized this month.

The ED investigates financial crimes, or money laundering and foreign exchange violations, on a national level. The Prohibition of Money Laundering ACT (PMLA) permitted the ED to summon people and operations for investigation and to order documents.

On Ed summon to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam said, “ When constitutional agencies contact you, you first go and precise all things that why did ED summon you. The leaders who are inside must have delivered the papers, there must be some proof. If they have nothing, then deny it. But the country will run on the fundamentals of rights. He has left for Madhya Pradesh to campaign, it is very good. He has also carried his motorist and pilot. They don’t have to regulate Punjab and deliver repose to the people there, so he carries him as the pilot. Delhi and Punjab both are concerned. It is the disrespect of democracy”.

What Can the Probe Agency Do?

  • The ED delivered a fresh summons to Mr. Kejriwal and they ignored the ED summons three times.
  • After this incident, the agency can pursue a non-bailable warrant (NBW). An NBW is a court order that requires a person to appear before the court at a given time or date.
  • If a person ignores or does not accept an NBW, they can be arrested and transferred before the court.

What can Mr. Kejriwal Do?

  • Mr. Kejriwal can present in the court to challenge the summons.
  • He can also take anticipatory bail.

The Delhi Liquor Scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED are investigating a liquor scam, now they have cleared Delhi government tax policy for 2021-22, which is claimed to have profited from certain liquor dealers. The AAP party has strongly ignored the allegation. Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena suggested a CBI probe into claimed abnormalities in the policy after taking a report from the Delhi government chief secretary.

A report claimed many plausible irregularities in the liquor policy, with a Rs. 144 crore release to retail licenses for Covid-19 connected sales losses and a Rs. 30 crore refund to a thriving airport zone aspirant who needs a no objection certificate to start a liquor store, officials said.

In April, Mr. Kejriwal was interrogated by the CBI for nine hours related to the case. This year, in February, AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was captured by the CBI.

After this summon, heavy security is settled outside Rajghat. Police announced that CM Kejriwal wished to discover Rajghat around 10 a.m. before going for the ED office. Several teams of ED have started searching in 10 places, including the house of Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand in North Delhi’s Civil Lines area.

Today, Delhi Chief Minister and AAM Aadmi Party Leader Arvind Kejriwal is summoned by the ED for questioning related to alleged excise policy scam. After six months, Kejriwal was interrogated by the CBI in the case. The AAM Aadmi Party has presented their agitation that Kejriwal would be the foremost to be arrested as part of BJP’s supposed conspiracy to aim highest India alliance administrators forward of the 2024 Lok Sabha pools.
