Kejriwal Government Unveils Delhi Budget 2024: Commits ₹1,000 to Every Woman Above 18 Through Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana

On Monday, Delhi’s Finance Minister, Atishi, took the podium in the Delhi assembly to present the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. During her address, she introduced a new initiative known as the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana. This groundbreaking scheme, devised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, aims to provide a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 to every woman aged 18 and above in the national

capital.

Minister Atishi emphasized that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana draws inspiration from the ideals of Ram Rajya, reflecting the government’s commitment to promoting welfare and equality for women. The scheme aligns with the vision of creating a society that upholds principles of justice, inclusivity, and empowerment.

Highlighting the financial aspects, the overall budget for Delhi in the fiscal year 2024 has been set at an ambitious outlay of ₹76,000 crore. This substantial allocation underscores the government’s dedication to addressing diverse needs and enhancing the overall development of the national capital.

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, with its provision of monthly financial support, stands out as a significant step towards empowering women and fostering an environment of financial security and independence. “Today we are going to present a revolutionary program Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana in which women about 18 years of age will be allocated 1000 rupees every month,” Delhi Finance Minister Atishi stated. 

The presentation of the Delhi budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 marked a significant milestone as it represented the 10th budget introduced by the Arvind Kejriwal-led government for the national capital. A key highlight of this budget was the unveiling of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, a novel initiative aimed at ensuring the financial well-being and empowerment of women in Delhi.

To facilitate the seamless implementation of this pioneering scheme, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has earmarked a substantial allocation of ₹2,714 crore in funds. During the announcement made in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Finance Minister Atishi underscored the government’s commitment to supporting women across the city.

Minister Atishi detailed, “A budget of ₹2,714 crore has been proposed for these beneficiaries in the budget of 2024-25. Under the Rs. 2000 crore for ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ for the welfare and empowerment of women, every woman above 18 years of age will receive an amount of ₹1,000 per month.” This financial provision highlights the government’s dedication to fostering a conducive environment for the welfare and upliftment of women, ensuring that every woman in the specified age group has access to monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000.

The substantial allocation reflects the government’s strategic approach to prioritize the economic empowerment of women and addresses their diverse needs. As Delhi advances into its 10th year under the leadership of the Arvind Kejriwal government, this budget stands as a testament to its ongoing commitment to inclusive and progressive governance.

All We Know About Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana 

While the government of Delhi hasn’t disclosed the precise specifications for the scheme, Atihsi stated all the ladies in Delhi above the age of 18 will be qualified to attain 1000 rupees in their bank accounts directly. 

The beginning date of this program hasn’t been revealed yet, but is anticipated that it will start after the Lok Sabha Elections, managed for April-May. Under this scheme, Rupees 1000 would be transferred every month to the bank accounts of ladies of more than 18 age. 

A dedicated fund of ₹2000 crore has been allocated for the recipients of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana. The eligibility criteria for this scheme include being a registered voter in Delhi. Individuals meeting the eligibility criteria are required to complete a form provided by the Delhi government, wherein they declare that they are not affiliated with any pension scheme and are not employed by the government. This process ensures that the benefits of the scheme are extended to those who fulfill the specified criteria and align with the intended target demographic.
