
Delhi gets its fourth woman CM: Who is Rekha Gupta?
Delhi: The BJP has made a comeback in the capital city of the world’s largest democracy after 27 years, completely sweeping AAP—the party that had been in power for over 10 years. In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP had a powerful victory against the former leading party by securing 48 out of 70 seats. After two weeks of speculation on who will be Delhi’s next CM, the party has announced that the first-time MLA, Rekha Gupta, will be appointed as the new CM of the seat of the Indian government.
On February 19, the BJP provided an answer to the long-awaited question by announcing that Delhi will get its fourth female CM, as Rekha Gupta will take her ceremonial oath as the new CM at Ramlila Ground on February 20, 2025.

Delhi’s Fourth Woman CM: BJP Stellar Comeback
Rekha Gupta, the 50-year-old leader, secured her first victory in the Assembly election and defeated the AAP candidate standing against her, Bandna Kumari from the Shalimar Bagh constituency. Delhi’s fourth woman CM was previously defeated by the same opponent in the previous two assembly elections in 2025 and 2020.
The BJP woman leader through his X’s post expressed her gratitude shortly after the long-awaited announcement for Delhi’s news CM, said that she is eternally grateful to all the senior leaders who trusted her and saw her as a capable and responsible candidate for the post of the Delhi’s CM. She added that their trust and support have provided her with new energy and inspiration. She further added that she vows to work with utmost honesty, integrity, and commitment for the empowerment, well-being, and overall development of all Delhi citizens. She concluded by saying that she’s fully committed to this significant opportunity to lead Delhi to new heights.
Rekha Gupta: From Student Leader to Delhi’s Fourth Woman CM
The 50-year-old BJP leader was born in Haryana’s Nandgarh on July 19, 1974, and moved to the capital city with her family when she was 2 years old. In her initial political journey, she worked as a volunteer for the ABVP, which is RSS’s student wing. As a student at Delhi University, she joined ABVP, and with her leadership skills then, she was elected as the DUSU’s President for the term 1996-1997. Apart from this, she also served as an active student activist and Secretary of Dyal Singh College, which majorly built the foundation for her political career.
After serving as a student leader, Rekha Gupta joined BJYM, the BJP’s youth wing, and started her new political chapter as the secretary of the BJYM’s Delhi unit. Then from 2004 to 2006, she served as BJYM’s National Secretary. A major rise in her political journey came with victory as an MCD Councilor from North Pitampura in 2007. Later, from 2007 to 2009, the BJP woman leader served as the President of the MCD’s Women’s Welfare & Child Development Committee. In 2022, she secured another outstanding victory against AAP’s Shelly Oberoi in the MCD Mayor elections.
From Delhi BJP Women’s Wing General Secretary to the party’s National Executive Member, Rekha Gupta has served the BJP through many key positions over the years of political journey till now. She has reflected her commitment to public service through her campaign with the slogan Kam Hi Pehchaan (Work is My Identity). She was chosen to be the next CM of the central seat of the Indian government by a group of well-known BJP leaders, including Satish Upadhyay, Aashish Sood, Vijender Gupta, and Jitender Mahajan. The oath-taking ceremony of Delhi’s fourth woman CM will be a historic event, with around 50,000 attendees, including India’s Prime Minister, his cabinet colleagues, and RSS leaders.
