Indian 10m Air Rifle Team Secures Gold Medal at Asian Games, Setting a New World Record

The Indian men’s 10m air rifle team, led by teenage world champion Rudrankksh Patil, bested the country’s first gold medal at the Asian Games 2023, on Monday on the podium, and placed top position with the world record score. 

The trio of Rudrankksh, Olympian Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar huddled 1893.7 in the qualification round, to hit back the challenge of the shooting powerhouse China and South Korea, to secure the gold. 

The 19-year-old Rudrankksh, shot a remarkable 632.5, Tomar 631.6, and Panwar 629.6 to accumulate the world record score, this is one of the most influential displays seen by Indian air rifle shooters in multi-discipline events. On the other hand, South Korea established itself as the second spot (1890.1), and China was an outlying third with a clump score of 1888.2. 

After the qualification round, in the event, Rudrankksh and Aishwarya also assembled it to the eight-shooter finals and would be gunning for more acclaim. 

The assemblage of the qualification scores determines the medallists, in the 10m air rifle shooting team event, although eight top shooters in the prior round were selected into the finals for separate magnificence. 

During the event, all three Indian marksmen shot mind-blowing scores, Divyansh would be immensely dissatisfied to overlook the last berth due to an Asian Games rule, where two marksmen from a distinct country can make it to the finals. 

In the World Cup or World Championship, Rudrankksh entered as a final and placed third, On the other side, after the qualification round, Aishwarya was fifth and Divyansh was established eighth, or all three Indians would have been selected in the eight-shooter final.

Divyansh had to make a path for Kazakhstan’s Islam Satpayev, who was established in ninth position because of rules, still selected for the finals. 

The China topper, Sheng Lihao in the qualification round, with a score of 634.5, set a qualification Asian Games record, on the other hand, South Korea’s Park Hajun, got second position with a score of 632.8.

India’s Rudrankksh got third entering the finals with a score of 632.5, while Aishwary established fifth at 631.6 among the list of qualifications. 

The Indian trio was just unstoppable on the path to team gold with Rudrakksh, trying to his form, drilling fantastic sequences of 104.8,106.1, 103.8, and 105.6. Aishwary had a sequence of 104.1, 105.5, 105.7, and 105.3 in credentials, and Divyansh, who will represent the country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, shot a series of 104.8, 104.3, and 104.7.

Rudrankksh’s father, Balasahab Patil, told PTI, “ My son was dedicated to delivering his finest at the games. He has positive confidence in his capability and he said that he would aim to win the first gold for the country, before leaving for Hangzhou.”

“ Before leaving for Hangzhou, he had flattened all the minor problems in his shooting. In these last two months, he practiced very hard.” Rudrankksh was not incorporated in the ISSF World Championship-bound squad to Baku by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) as the confederacy wanted to decrease the country’s chances of capturing more Paris Olympic ration places for the country by delivering other marksmen. 

Rudrankksh has already grabbed an Olympic quota place for the country, on the basis of prevailing in the World Championships gold in Cairo last year. 

The World Championships were held in Baku last month, he hit best compared to the gold-medal winner in the Azerbaijan capital in replicate situations organized for him at the Karni Singh Ranges in Delhi.
