BS4 Vehicles Vs BS6 Vehicles – Difference and Future of BS4 Vehicles

Bs4-and-Bs6 Vehicles

BS4 and BS6 are Bharat Stage Emission Standards (BSES), the Government of India commences these emission standards. The government of India issued that only BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) vehicles can be registered and sold after the 31 March 2020, and this applies for both two and four-wheelers. The BS6 emission norm introduced to overcome air pollution. Because of this emission norms, India become equivalent to other countries like Europe and the USA. So the question is how people will switch from BS4 to BS6?

1) What is the BS6 Emission Norm ?

This emission norm is introduced to overcome the air pollution in India. BS6 is the 6th emission norms, and it is stricter and restrictive The BS6 emission norm is presented with the features of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which are not available in Bharat Stage 4. The BS6 emission norm also has the feature of Real Driving Emission (RDE), which is first time introduced in India. The major upgrade in BS6 vehicles is that its fuel changed, means the vehicle with BS6 engine needs only BS6 fuel.

2) BS4 Vehicles run on BS6 fuel or not.

If you have BS4 vehicle which is run on petrol, then no need to worry because both the BS6 grade petrol and BS4 grade petrol have the same chemical composition. But is you have a BS4 vehicle which runs on diesel then you might have some problems to face. The BS4 grade diesel has 50 ppm sulphur traces, and BS6 grade diesel has sulphur traces of 10 ppm. BS6 diesel has low sulphur traces which is good for the environment, but not good for BS4 engine.

3) BS6 Vehicles run on BS4 fuel or not.

It is same as the above that the owner of the petrol-powered car do not have to worry because the chemical composition is similar in BS6 grade petrol and BS4 grade petrol. But if you use BS4 grade diesel in a car of BS6 engines then it will be harmful to your car and your car will undergo severe damage. The BS6 diesel engines are designed with many advanced electronics features like Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and a re-developed exhaust system. So the high sulphur content in BS4 diesel can cause serious damage in BS6 engines.

4) Future of BS4 vehicles.

As per the government order that after the April 2020, the sale and purchase of the BS4 vehicles (both the two-wheelers and four-wheelers) will be banned. So, therefore, all the car manufacturing companies have to clear their stock before the deadline. The Finance Minister of India said that the BS4 vehicles purchased till 31 March 2020, so if you are the owner of BS4 vehicles then no need to worry about its selling.
